Social media strategy

We all are fans of at least some celebrities or successful business people. We look up to them, and probably, along with admiration, even adulate them. But what if we turn into celebrities ourselves and people begin to follow us? How will we deal with the sudden attention when we have our own business to hold on our shoulders?

Well, here are some tips on how to use Social Media Marketing as a tool to enhance your business and some mistakes that you mustn't risk making!

Who are you?

Whoever you are, you should be real. Be a real person when you are promoting your blog or small time business. If you are, on the other hand, a big company looking at Twitter as a professional space, then the key is honesty about your services. When you talk about your company, tell your followers about everything you cater to; listen to them and respond aptly. Let people know exactly who you are on the virtual space and social domain.

How do you behave?

The way a person or a brand behaves on a social network is of much importance when it comes to gaining popularity. It's like how a mother asks her children to behave well when there are guests over at your place.

Well, in the same way all your fans on Facebook, followers on Twitter and other social connections are like “guests” who are visiting your profile. Your profile is like your virtual home where you reside and you share! So, it's always good to be at your best behavior and be presentable and warm to all those you wish to connect with.

Comparisons to competitors and some amount of negative feedback is always bound to occur. As a representative of your brand identity, it is important to deal with such content wisely. Answering, threatening, giving rude and impolite replies to all those who point the finger at you isn't a good idea. Chose to ignore where you can unless completely unavoidable.

Further, be careful what content you choose to delete. You cannot be deleting all words of criticism and keeping only the compliments! If you want people to respect you well, you need to have a real identity – deal with criticism but do not tolerate abuse.

What is your social media marketing strategy?

Well, you don't really need to share your plans here, but you must certainly have one! Without a plan, success on a dynamic social networking platform is extremely difficult.

The catch here is, unlike conventional advertising media, on the Internet you are constantly engaging with real people who have real ideas, thoughts, and feedback. They are loyal as long as there is something in there for them. So, as a brand, you need to stay connected and keep them in the loop of all the awesome services you provide or products you offer!

Moreover, social media marketing does not have an end. Unlike a television commercial which may run as a campaign for a few weeks or a print advertisement that features in the newspaper for a few days, the social network presence is something that has to be consistent and alive; you can't just make a page and leave it to people to like. Here, you have to hang around, see what's happening and participate in order to succeed. So, dear friends, come on board and join the gang!
